Message from President

Indra Mani

Greetings to all members of ISAE

It is a matter of great honour and privilege for me to take over the responsibilities of President ISAE from Aprl 2018.  I am  thankful to ISAE members for electing well meaning and dynamic candidates for new team ISAE for the period (2018-21)  I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the stalwarts of Agricultural Engineering profession who have contributed immensely to make this novel profession a major contributor in nation development since independence. It is well acknowledged fact that saga of green revolution can not be written  without including immense  contributions of agricultural engineering interventions particularly mechanization and irrigation. I further take this opportunity to salute great visionary agricultural engineers who thought of establishing this unique professional society i.e. Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) as early as 1960 to strengthen and promote the professional activities by enrolling members from academia , industry, corporate, extension services, state services  including policy makers and planners.   I profusely thank all the past Presidents of ISAE and their very valuable team members who brought laurels to the society through their great visionary approach  and untiring hard work. I personally got opportunity to work with three past presidents Prof. Gajendra Singh, Dr. V. M .Mayande (for short period) and Dr. N. C. Patel in the capacity of Secretary General . During this period , I got opportunity to serve the society in the leadership of respective luminary presidents in strengthening its financial health, achieving great international presence, a distinguished honour among Engineering Council of India (ECI) member societies and in organizing impactful events both national and international.  We worked hard to promote professional activities with Institution of Engineers(India) leadership also. I also express my profuse thanks to our past Directors (International) Dr. R. L. Kushwaha, Dr Indrajeet Chaubey and Dr Dharmendra Saraswat for their untiring efforts to make  ISAE presence felt globally. Most important indicator of our global presence is forthcoming mega international event” Global Water Security Conference being  jointly organized by ISAE and ASABE at Hotel Taj Krishna Hyderabad, Telengana State ,during 2-6 October 2018.  We are working relentlessly with our partner team ASABE  and local organizing team  at Hyderabad  in making this event a gold standard.

Next year ISAE will reach an age of 60 which as per a study is new middle age. We plan to celebrate this important moment and at the same time do introspection  of our  achievements and redefine our  goals to serve the challenges of new India. In fact, Indian agriculture is passing through change; the present  Government  has lunched a number  of schemes for welfare of the farmers with the major objective to double the farmers’ income by 2022. All these schemes and programs need serious input of agricultural engineers’ from all sub disciplines; Farm power and machinery, Agricultural structures & processing, Soil and water conservation engineering, Irrigation and drainage Engineering  and Renewable energy engineering. The frontier areas in which innovations need to be developed are sensors and artificial intelligence in agriculture, engineering interventions for hi-tech agriculture,  value addition and smart packaging & storage, application of solar and renewable energy in agriculture, and Conservation agriculture and biomass management and climate smart agriculture .

Agricultural engineering profession has maximum opportunity to contribute in ensuring food and nutritional security , water security , energy security and strengthening and preparing us to face the menace of climate change not only in India but globally. Government of India and many state governments are looking for high tech engineering innovations to solve the problems of farmers. It has been acknowledged that without engineering interventions Indian agriculture can not achieve desired transformations. Friends, this is high time to convert ideas into solution.

During last three months, I got opportunity to visit PAU Ludhiana , HAU Hisar, AAU Anand, GBPUA&T Pantnagar, RPCAU Samastipur and interacted with faculty and students . There is need to put best efforts by different stake holders of agricultural engineering profession  including R&D institutions, Industries, funding agencies, extension engineers  and ISAE Chapters to make far greater impact of this novel profession.

We have a very wise and dedicated team ISAE for the period 2018-21. Our team  will leave no stone unturned in making ISAE one of the best professional society of the world and making its presence felt from grass root to global.. We fully understand that  ISAE has to play a strong role in facilitating and coordinating different activities of technology development and dissemination   which , in turn, would help in attracting youths to agriculture and ushering   prosperity and happiness among farming community.
