History of ISAE

history-isae

The Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) has played a crucial role in modernizing Indian agriculture and promoting agricultural engineering since its inception.

  • Advocacy for Mechanization: After independence, India faced severe food shortages and resistance to mechanization due to perceived high costs and other concerns. ISAE championed agricultural mechanization through conventions and publications, contributing significantly to India’s agricultural transformation.
  • Formation and Growth: Founded on October 15, 1960, at IIT Kharagpur and registered in 1969, ISAE supported the new field of agricultural engineering, advocating for educational programs and professional recognition.
  • Educational and Professional Impact: ISAE played a key role in establishing agricultural engineering colleges and promoting the profession within government departments. It serves as a “think tank,” setting standards and policies for sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Historical Record and Future Vision: The book “The Impression: Treatise of ISAE Growth and Impact” documents the society’s history and achievements, aiming to inspire future generations to advance agricultural engineering.
  • Ongoing Challenges and Directions: ISAE addresses sustainability issues, such as groundwater depletion and soil degradation, while continuing to promote innovation and strategic planning for sustainable agriculture.
