Title EFFECTS OF VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF TILLAGE IMPLEMENTS ON YIELD OF WHEAT AND COST OF CULTIVATION IN BIHAR STATE
Author Name M.P. SINHA
Abstract

Six treatments of soil manipulation classified as (1) Indigenous method {2) Mould Board (M.B.) ploughing, cultivating and seeding (3) Ploughing, harrowing, seeding and cultivating (4) Disc ploughing, disc harrowing, seeding and cultivating (5) Bakhar, M.B. ploughing, cultivating and seeding (6) Ploughing, cultivating seeding and harrowing (Peg tooth harrow) over a three year period i.e. 1962.'65 to ascertain the best combination of tillage implements required for wheat cultivation in three regions of Bihar state, namely Patna, Dholi and Sabour were conducted. Replicated experiment with these treatments was followed by another experiment with two treatments only, namely, indigenous implement (Desi Plough) and the treatment found to be most efficient as a result of the replicated experiment to determine the Loss of efficiency of the implements in small plots of replicated experiments. Improved implements significantly decrease the cost of cultivation. Statistical analysis showed that treatment (2) at Patna, treatment (6) at Sabour and treatment (3) at Dholi, effectively reduced the cost of cultivation without any significant effect on yield. The trial of the implements in larger plots of 0.1 hectare showed definite increase in yield and decrease in cost of cultivation compared to replicated trials.
