Title RESEARCH ON ENERGY REQUIREMENT IN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR UNDER ALL INDIA CO-ORDINATED RESEARCH PROJECT ON ENERGY REQUIREMENT IN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR
Author Name DIPANKAR DE
Abstract Research work done during the last 28 years under the "All India Coordinated Research Project on Energy Requirement in Agriculture Sector" has shown that although agriculture sector consumes comparatively a small percentage of the total national energy use, yet increasing use of fossil energy like fertilizer, agro-chemicals, fuel of motorised systems (tractors, power systems), and electricity for running irrigation pumps and operating machines for stationary work, has helped m increasing the production and productivity of crops The state where energy consumption is higher have higher productivity. This project since its inception has endeavored to conduct research on energy in the context of its increased demand, resulting from modern technological inputs to agriculture and necessitated due to the increased demand for food, feed and fibre on account of population pressure and rising standards of living It has given projections for energy needs meels for increasing production and productivity and has also identified energy efficient equipment to economise in energy use
