53rd Annual Convention and International Symposium

The Annual Convention and International Symposium on Engineering Technologies for Precision and Climate Smart Agriculture was held at Shatabdi Krishi Prekshahgriha (Auditorium), Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on 28th Jan 2019. After lightening the lamp and recitation of BHU Kulgeet Prof. Ramesh Chand, Director, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU welcomed the participants and guests. Prof. R.M. Singh, Convener of the event welcomed the guests and mentioned that the three days event would see a congregation of eminent scholars and young budding researchers and students from India and abroad. Dr. Manoj Khanna, Secretary-General, ISAE, New Delhi briefed about the activities of the society and announced the name of different award-winning participants. Prof. Indra mani, President ISAE stressed that the particular focus of the agricultural engineering forum is to strengthen and foster collaboration, integrate innovation in sustainable resource management for the benefit of common citizens. Chief host and Chief Patron of the symposium Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar, Vice-Chancellor, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi mentioned that the consequences of natural resource degradation reduced land productivity, socio-economic problems, including uncertainty in food security, migration, limited development and damage to ecosystems. Air and water quality measurement, quality detection, cleaning, and further processing, of water, such as removal of arsenic, for irrigation, etc. is required. He gave emphasis on Net house cultivation and maintaining a congenial micro-climate in the protected cultivation structures (Net houses, Green Houses) including comparing the qualities of fruits, flowers and vegetable grown in these structures. Guest of Honour Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra, and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India presented overall development in Indian agricultural production system. He presented the requirement of Engineering Technologies at each corner of the agricultural system for enhancing agricultural production and doubling farmers’ income.  Chief Guest Honorable Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Agricultural Research, Government of Uttar Pradesh presented overall development of agriculture in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He advised the scientists to develop the technologies viable for the farmers, especially the farmers having very small landholdings. He announced to provide the necessary support to Banaras Hindu University for establishment and operation of B.Tech. Agricultural Engineering course under the umbrella of the Institute of Agricultural Science, BHU, Varanasi. Prof. A.P. Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Co-Chairman of the symposium mentioned that more than 400 people from throughout the country and more than 10 participants from the Mediterranean region, Africa and the USA gathered to discuss on recent path-breaking discoveries, emerging areas of agricultural engineering technologies. He also proposed vote of thanks.
